| Celtic religion: The Celtic gods and their cults were local
and tribal rather than national. The most honored was Mercuty, it had been
find images of him. The Celts were an early Indo-European people who from the 2nd millennium BC to the 1st century BC spread over much of Europe. The Celtic tribes ranged from the British Isles and northern Spain to far east, lately the Celtics were in part absorbed into the Roman Empire as Britons, Gauls, Boii, Galatians, and Celtiberians. The oldest evidence of the Celts comes from Hallstatt, Austria, near Salzburg. |
