| Balthus went to Berlin with his family and lived there until the Begining of the First World War. In 1917 his parents divorced and he lived between Switzerland and the destroyed Germany. Reiner Maria Rilke, friend of his mother encouraged him to publish a book, Mitsou , book of drawings about a lost cat. | |||||

With the help of Gide, Balthus came back to Paris in 1924 and started
to study Painting with financial help from Rilke. Balthus died the 18th of february of 2001. His complete works number is around 350 pieces. |
