Balthus was born in February of 1908 in Paris. Balthazar Klossovsky de Rola belong to an artist family originally from Poland. They were connected with all the intellectual people of Paris, people like André Gide y André Derain. In 1914

Balthus went to Berlin with his family and lived there until the Begining of the First World War. In 1917 his parents divorced and he lived between Switzerland and the destroyed Germany. Reiner Maria Rilke, friend of his mother encouraged him to publish a book, Mitsou , book of drawings about a lost cat. Balthus and his contemporary art. Balthus

With the help of Gide, Balthus came back to Paris in 1924 and started to study Painting with financial help from Rilke.
He started to make money designing decorations for theatre acts, like Camus and Shakespeare.
Balthus never wanted to be part of any contempory artist movement, he did not want to be influenced by any other style.
In 1983 Balthus had a big Exposition in the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the following year in The Metropolitan of New York.

Balthus died the 18th of february of 2001. His complete works number is around 350 pieces.
