Introduction:

Velázquez was born in 1599 and died in 1660 at the age of 61 years old, which was quite old in those days. During his life he was not famous because he lived in the Court of Felipe IV and no-one could admire his pictures. Until 1819, when Museo del Prado opened for the first time, his art was only admired by the Spanish Royal Families.
Even when the Museum opened the doors, Velázquez wasn´t admired by the public taste because they were dominated by a romantic, very naturalist and religous style.

In the scond half of the XIX Century France was dominated by natural impressionism, in 1865 Manet traveled to Spain and discovered the incredible quality of Velázquez art. He said about him that he was the "painter of painters".

Today, Velázquez is being recognized as one of the best painters in the world.

The Adoration of the Three Kings.

Painted for the Chappel Noviciado Jesuitas de Seville in 1619.

Jesus Crucufied.

Painted in 1632 for the Convent of Benedictinas of San Plácido. This is the most well-known picture of Crises ofVelazquez.

Virgen Coronation.

Painted for the pray room of the Queen Isabel in the madrilian Alcazar.

Saint Antonio Abad and Saint Pablo, hermit.

Painted for the chappel of the Gardens of Retiro Palace. It is dated in 1633 approximately.

The triunf of Baco.

Very famous. It is consider as the first great work of Velazquez. Painted in 1629.

The forge of Vulcano.

Painted in 1630, Apolo goes to the forge of Vulcano to inform him of his wife, Venus, infidelity. Well-known picture.

The spinners

Painted in 1657 approximately. It is one of the most famous pictures of Velzaquez.

The Breda Surrounding

Painted in 1635 for the Crown Room of the Retiro Palace. Very well-known picture of the artist.

The Portrait of the Infant Carlos

Panted between 1626-1627.Infant Carlos, second son of the king Felipe III.
