The painters decided to create their own way to survive,
the Société anonyme coóperative. The 15th
of April 1874 they opened their own exposition.
A reporter, Louis Leroy, publiced a horrible report about them in the satiric newspaper Charivan. They got the name of Impressionist. Monet found a new home in Argenteuil, near Sena, where Renoir, Monet and Manet painted their most pleasant paintings. |

| After a while, the Société anonyme cooperative
had to be disolve with econimical loss. Renoir met Georges Charpentier (Zolas editor) who entrusted him with a portrait of his wife and children. With the money Renoir made, he rented a house in Montmatre with a garden. In 1877, the Impressionist had their third exposition, Renoir showed more than 20 paintings, between them, Le Moulin de la Gallete. A new friend of the artist, Georges Riviére, edited a new magazine, Impressioniste, jounal d'Art, to defend the new painting style. But no-one bought it. Renoir needed money, so he painted a very discret Chocolate mug, to the Salon and got accepted. |
