1870, Renoir was represented with almost his friends. But in July started
the war with Prusia. Renoir had to join the army. Napoleon III lost the
batle and France became a republic. In the spring 1871 artesans, labourers and many artists started a revolution. They declared their own revolutionary gouvernment. That ended in blood. Renoir knew very little about the dramatic facts. These revolution changed the spiritual climate in the city. That influenced directly and indirectly in the posterior development of Renoir, and the new art in general. |
