In the exposition of The Salon in the spring 1870, Renoir was represented with almost his friends. But in July started the war with Prusia. Renoir had to join the army. Napoleon III lost the batle and France became a republic.
In the spring 1871 artesans, labourers and many artists started a revolution. They declared their own revolutionary gouvernment. That ended in blood. Renoir knew very little about the dramatic facts.
These revolution changed the spiritual climate in the city. That influenced directly and indirectly in the posterior development of Renoir, and the new art in general.

The next time Renoir sent a painting to the Salon, Parisins women with argel dresses, got rejected. The artist was having difficult times with money.

Renoir developes specially all the magic of his paintings, with a great fantasy. In his work between 1872 and 1883, he did the best of his career. Nearly every of his paintings are masterpieces.

Paul Durand-Ruel, art dealer, fought for the public recognition of the Barbizon painters, trying to sell their paintings.
In 1870 Ruel met Monet and Pisarro in London and in 1873 he discovered Renoir.
