1841 Pierre August Renoir was born in Limoges, the 25th February.
1854-58 Apprentice porcelain painter.
1860 Access to the Louvres museum as a painting copier of Rubens, Fragonard and Boucher.
1862-64 Study in Ecole des Beaux-Art where he met Monet, Sisley and Bazille.
1863 Starts to paint outside with his friends.
1864 "Emerald Dancing" accepted by the Salon, but he destroyed it after because of self-criticism.
1866 Painted the "Hostal of Mere Anthony"
1867 Painted "Lise with Umbrella"
1868 Painted the Sisley marriage.
1869 Exhibition with Degas Pissarro and Bazille in the Salon. Painted the first impressionist landscape "Le Grenouillere".
1870 Prussian-French War
1872 Durand Ruel bought two of his paintings. Painting with Monet in Argenteuil.
1873 Created an independent association of artists with Cezanne, Pissarro, Sisley and many others.
1874 First exhibition of the Impressionists. 1878 Painted Madame Charpentier and her daughters portrait.
1879 Fourth exhibition of the Impressionists. Good reviews of the Charpentiers portrait.
1881 Travel to Argel. In Chatou, painted "Luncheo of the Boaters".
1882 Ill of pneumonia, had to go to Argel to get well.
1883 Beginning of his dry period. Many exhibitions with Durand Ruel in London, Boston, Berlin, Paris…. Painted three dance paintings.
1885 Has his first son Pierre with Aline Charigot.
1887 Finished the "Great Bathers"
1890 Married Aline Charigot.
1892 Durand Ruel exhibited 110 of Renoir's paintings. The first time the French nation bought on of his paintings. Travelled to Spain.
1894 Cailebotte died and Renoir acted as executor. Renoir used Gabrielle Renard, cousin of Aline as a baby-sitter and his favourite model. His second child was born the 15th Septemeber, Jean, who became a famous cinema director. Renoir's disease prevented him from walking properly.
1897 Collection of Cailebotte is accepted by the museums.
1898 Bought a house in Essoyes. Serious attack of rheumatoid arthritis. His right hand paralysed.
1900 Renoir exhibited 11 of his pictures in the Universal Exhibition of Paris. Got the cross of the Legion of honour.
1904 Great triumph in the Autumn Salon with 35 pictures.
1905 Exhibited as the President of Honour, in Autumn Salon.
1907 Metropolitan museum of New York bought the painting "Madame Charpentier and her daughters" for 84,000 Francs.
1908 Created two wax sculptures.
1911 In a wheelchair. Brush being tied to his hands so he could paint. Named Official of the Legion of Honour.
1914 Pierre and Jean seriously injured in second world war.
1915 Aline died, 27th June.
1917 National gallery of London took one of his pictures.
1919 Finished the Painting "Rest after the Bath". Another prize Commander of the Legion of Honour. Visits Louvre where he is treated like Emperor of painting. Pneumonia in November. Painted still life with apples. Died 3rd December in Cannes. Rests in Essoyes with Aline.
